They Clapped and Cheered at his Funeral

They Clapped and Cheered at his Funeral

By Leopold M. Llonch

Giuseppe Di Luna passed away at 87 years old in Florence, Italy. He was a modest man who lived a simple life and he had a disarming sense of humor which everyone loved. His passion was his family and his friends. But his craft was his purpose.

In his early twenties, Giuseppe was an apprentice house painter. After a year painting homes, he knew this wasn’t his purpose in life. After that, was an apprentice carpenter for a year and still didn’t feel he was called for that.

At age 27, Giuseppe met an artisan who made frames for artists and became his apprentice. He was fascinated with his craft and felt that he had finally found his purpose. He was an artisan who recreated Renaissance Art Frames.

His work, which was recognized internationally, were frames crafted in the Tuscan, Venetian, and Bolognese style. For more than 50 years, he designed and created finely made art frames for more than 600 artists throughout Italy, Europe, and North America.

Giuseppe lived a fulfilling life because he discovered his unique talent and turned it into a strength through commitment and hard work and he enriched the lives of many.

The day of his funeral, a large procession of family and close friends followed the horse drawn hearse carrying his body to the church. Remarkably, it seemed as if all of Florence lined the streets, cheering and clapping as the hearse rolled by.

Giuseppe was the source of pleasure for so many whom he befriended and with whom he shared his craft. It’s customary in Italy for admirers to celebrate the life of a loving and faithful friend by applauding and cheering as they say their last farewell.

Giuseppe discovered his unique talent and he invested the time and energy necessary to create the best version of himself.
